Ingredients
For the beef mixture:
- 450g lean ground beef
- 30g butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 230g brown mushrooms, minced
- 30g ketchup
- 15g Worcestershire sauce
- 3g Kosher salt
- 3g freshly ground black pepper
For the sauce:
- 8g cornstarch
- 240ml beef broth
For the cheese & buns:
- 225g Provolone cheese slices, chopped
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions
1️⃣ Brown the Beef:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and cook without stirring for 2-3 minutes to develop a crispy crust.
Break the beef apart and continue cooking until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
2️⃣ Cook the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the diced onions, bell peppers, and minced mushrooms.
Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened and slightly browned.
3️⃣ Combine Beef and Vegetables:
Return the cooked beef to the pan with the sautéed vegetables.
Stir well to combine.
4️⃣ Add the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix beef broth and cornstarch until smooth.
Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
Pour the mixture into the skillet and stir well.
5️⃣ Simmer and Thicken:
Let the mixture simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
6️⃣ Add the Cheese:
Turn off the heat and stir in chopped Provolone cheese.
Mix until the cheese is fully melted and creates a creamy texture.
7️⃣ Serve:
Toast the brioche buns for extra flavor.
Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto each bun and serve hot!
Notes
- For extra cheesiness, top with additional sliced Provolone before serving.
- Want a spicier kick? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a few dashes of hot sauce.
- Prefer a classic Philly Cheesesteak taste? Use Cheez Whiz or white American cheese instead of Provolone.
- Make it low-carb! Serve over lettuce wraps or in a bowl instead of a bun.
